Mitch was first introduced to Bethesda games when a family
member bought him Fallout: New Vegas for his 13th birthday. It wasn’t quite love at
first play as he struggled to grasp the basics in his very first open world RPG.
About a year later, his best friend gave him an extra copy
of Skyrim for the Xbox 360. This time he fell in love with Bethesda’s style of games,
and after completing Skyrim went back and gave Fallout: New Vegas the enjoyment it
thoroughly deserves.
As the Fallout 4 hype train got rolling in 2014, Mitch
learned about and slowly started to explore Bethesda’s previous catalog of games: First
Oblivion, then Fallout 3, and finally Morrowind. By the time Fallout 4 was shown at E3
2015, Mitch was a full-fledged Bethesda fanatic (who was also excited for that rumored
Starfield game!)
Mitch poured many, many hours into Fallout 4 and
subsequently Fallout 76, but all the while was patiently excited for the new sci-fi
franchise from Bethesda. It was that excitement that led him to co-found Lorefield with
Lexi, which continues to this day!
Lexi has been a passionate Bethesda gamer since first
playing a newly released The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Legendary Edition in the Summer of
2013.
She would often find herself sneaking onto UESP.net at
school, whenever on computers, to read up on Elder Scrolls lore. Mainly about the
Dwarves of the universe, but also a variety of other things. Lexi discovered Fallout in
2015 with the announcement of Fallout 4, and got to play Fallout 3 on her Xbox One via
the Backwards Compatibility feature that dropped that same year.
While Lexi heard the rumours of Bethesda Game Studios making
a new ip throughout 2016 and 2017, she didn’t really get engaged until Starfield was
revealed in 2018. Even at this point though, the reveal of The Elder Scrolls VI
overshadowed Starfield for Lexi. This would only be true until 2020.
In 2020, out of curiosity for the lore of the upcoming game,
Lexi started getting involved in the Starfield community, and through that she met a
stranger named Mitch. Together they would co-found Lorefield.
Lorefield is the brainchild of Mitch and Lexi, who were active in the
r/Starfield subreddit back in April of 2020. It all started when Lexi
created a post on
r/Starfield asking what the lore community would be
called, and the name Lorefield was said in
the comments. Mitch created
the r/Lorefield subreddit almost instantly, and Lexi reached out to
join
as a moderator. Once setup, r/Lorefield became the lore subreddit for
Starfield.
While r/starfieldlore already existed, r/Lorefield became more popular
and had a unique ring to it. Lexi and Mitch could have left it here, but
they wanted to
share their passion for the lore of Starfield, so early
on they decided to plan a podcast and
some YouTube video content using
the Lorefield name. Despite this, the goal was always to keep
r/Lorefield semi-independent because, based on other lore subreddits, it
was better to be
left as a lore subreddit and not an all-in-one
subreddit for all things Lorefield.
Progress was slow from there, until around Early 2021. Mitch managed to
contact the mod of r/starfieldlore and they gave Mitch control of the
subreddit out of the
kindness of their heart. Neither Mitch nor Lexi
expected this to happen. Since then,
r/starfieldlore became a redirect
to r/Lorefield, and the original mod sadly left on their own
terms.
Using the subreddit as a redirect was done to not divide the community
into two
parts.
A bit later, in June 2021, The Lorefield Podcast Episode 1: The Pilot
was uploaded to YouTube. This was the beginning of the content era for
Lorefield, and
currently the channel now has 27 episodes of the podcast.
In late 2022, community member Red Wolf
reached out to Mitch and Lexi
about doing a fun video series in the gap of official content
drops. The
series would take the known lore and make basic stories using it. This
was the
birth of Tales from the Settled Systems, which started with
Episode 1: The Crimson Fleet
Pirate.
